about
From Santa Clara, California, joy combines her background of jazz piano and love of pop music to create a refreshing take on modern music, pushing the genres forward.
Her soft harmonies complement her honey-like melodies, warm and smooth with the same ability to get stuck if you’re not paying attention. Blending influence from Hiatus Kaiyote and Esperanza Spalding, to SZA and Anderson Paak., her sound is an eclectic collection of deep rooted references from music and film.
Through her music, she wrestles with balancing awareness of internal and American issues, and keeping inner peace. Her music serves as peace for the people who face these challenges, and prose for those who may not yet understand the challenges, all while retaining listenability through production and harmony.

Growing up in Santa Clara, California, Joy always had a passion for music and the arts. Through her mother's encouragement, and Alicia Keys music videos, she began studying classical piano at the age of 5. Piano was the staple in her youth when dance, visual art, and musical theater came in and out of her life. Music became a connection to her soul, where she could understand the ups and downs of life without needing to find the right words to explain. Harmony was her expression.
Joy not only takes inspiration from the leaders in music innovation listed above, she has dedicated years to studying the very craft they were born out of, jazz music. For 10 years, Joy dedicated her time to studying jazz piano through local music organizations San Jose Jazz and Stanford Jazz camp. She also attended San Jose State University as a jazz piano major to deepen her understanding of music theory and harmony, eventually switching to focus on music technology, pursuing synthesizer and learning the science of sound. There she would study the greats, and develop her live performance. She arranged music for her ensembles, even up to a 17-piece big band.
After leaving university, she retired from jazz piano to focus once again on what get her into music: pop music. Her dream of connecting musicality, complex harmony, and listenable music became realized, following in the footsteps of greats like Stevie Wonder, and Earth Wind and Fire.
